2016 Mule PRO-FT & PRO-FXT Review: Work Hard, Play Hard

Kawasaki invented a brand new segment of vehicle nearly 30 years ago with the first generation Mule. The Mule has long-been a tool used by many industries to do various jobs and has been one of the most reliable and longest serving machines in the UV market. Many owners will make this purchase and never have to think about it again other than for regular maintenance. This tough and reliable machine works alongside its owner in the heat, snow, rain, and cold, day in, day out, with nary a second thought. With all of its utility, strength, and simplicity, there was a trade-off in comfort and performance. Kawasaki tackled this trade-off head on to develop the all-new PRO series Mule machines.

Up to this point, the Mule has gone through iteration after iteration leading to a machine that has been hewn to the near-perfect benchmark of what a utility oriented vehicle is. After years of iteration in place of revolution, Kawasaki has decided to take that billet piece and refine it even further to create a crossover machine that is as comfortable as it is purposeful.

The Mule PRO lineup takes everything that Kawasaki has learned about the UTV market in the last 28 years and really examined what the core customers liked and where the Mule fell short. Equipped with this knowledge, the engineers crafted what is possibly the best all-around UTV that I have sat in to date.

I realize that is a bold claim, so let me extrapolate. The Mules of the past had a lethargic top speed of 25 mph, as well as a suspension that rode more like a 1981 GMC Sierra on leaf springs than a Jeep equipped with modern suspension. And don't get me wrong, this is not really a bad thing. The Mule is a simple tool and it is very very good at what it does. Now for the resounding BUT... But, your wife and kids did not exactly want to go out with you down to the creek on a Sunday afternoon in the Mule. They want to go in a machine that had a more plush ride as well as one that would make the trek a little faster than jogging pace. This would often lead to the family loading up in the Teryx and not the Mule.

The MULE PRO was developed by men and women that literally grew up working and playing in the fields and pastures of middle-America. The Mule Pro is a flagship machine to bridge the gap between work and play. These folks know how important making implements around the property multi-task. The PRO is just as rugged and strong as the standard Mule, but where the PRO series really shines is in it's multi-tasking abilities.

The Brute Force 750 4x4i models also feature four-wheel drive to help ensure you reach your destination, even in tough conditions, while the price-friendly Brute Force 300 is available in rear-wheel drive only.

All Brute Force ATVs are constructed around a sturdy frame that is built Kawasaki STRONG. Along with dependable engines and proven Kawasaki performance, the Brute Force family is the perfect transportation for a fun weekend ride, a fishing trip or getting around the work site.

Powered by a fuel injected 749cc V-twin engine, the Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS and EPS Camo can be ridden in either two- or four-wheel drive modes, which are selected at the touch of a button on the handlebar. It also has the benefit of Variable Front Differential Control for the limited-slip front differential, ensuring plenty of traction when it’s needed.

Power is transmitted through the Kawasaki Automatic Power-Drive System (KAPS) for the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to ensure smooth power delivery and always the right amount of torque for the task at hand. These models also feature Electric Power Steering (EPS), making it easy to maneuver off-road, and allowing riders to stay in the saddle longer by reducing fatigue.

Equipped with powerful disc brakes and double wishbone independent suspension with 6.7” of wheel travel, the 2016 Kawasaki Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS and EPS Camo are ready for rough or tough conditions.

Not only can they handle the rough stuff, but these Brute Force ATVs look the part thanks to the rugged styling and attractive six-spoke cast aluminum wheels. The vehicle is also equipped with durable cargo racks with integrated tie-down loops.
