Prairie 700 Valve Clearance Adjustment Troubles!!!
Hey folks. I'm having a bit of trouble getting my clearance correct. I've used my feeler gauges to try and get my clearance to factory specs but my front cylinder is still making this ticking noise. I took the adjustment cap off several times and tweaked it a bit but still the annoying noise. Any suggestions from ya'll out there would be appreciated. Is it possible to have a weak valve spring or am i just still off with my adjustments?

Is it a very loud ticking?
You're most likely trying to adjust the valves in the wrong part of the cycle.
Ignore what you've heard about "rotating 180 degrees", etc., just remove the valve adjustment cover and roll the engine over with the pull starter. Watch for the valves to cycle; when the intake valve closes you are now starting the "compression" stroke. Rotate the crank another 1/2 turn until you see the proper flywheel mark come into the viewing access hole down by the recoil starter. Set the valves.

oh its enough noise to get on my nerves when its started. Its like a noise only a person that knows atv engines would notice. It's the front cylinder valves so it may be a little hard to actually see what position the valves are in. I can hear the compression(low sucking sound) when I roll it over though. I'll just go on that and see if I can get some headway. I'll keep ya posted!
