Default '02 secondary clutch in '03 prairie 650?

I see the part numbers are the same for early production '03 650s but they change for the late year builds. I believe based on my VIN that I have the later '03 650. My brother has an '02 650 in pieces and I wanted to steal his secondary to see if I liked his clutch spring. Will it fit to begin with and if it will, is there any other difference (gearing wise) between his and mine? Sorry if this has been hit on but I can't find it anywhere. Thanks

It will fit but the 02 secondarys are notorious for going bad. I think they changed something in the 03's IIRC

Not sure what was changed but the part number for the entire clutch changed after a certain VIN number in '03 according to the fiche on Kawasaki's own site. I didn't check individual components but the assembly as a whole is different.

T_dilley is correct. You don't want to install an 02 secondary clutch on your quad even tho it will fit. The 02 secondary clutches and primary clutches were updated in later year models. THe 02 secondary in particular is well-known to wear out prematurely.

If I were you, I'd search for an 03 or later Prairie 650 or 700 clutch. Also, a BF650 solid rear axle clutch should also fit. I'm guessing the BF650i and 750 clutches should also fit your quad, but not 100% sure.

All the clutches Mike mentioned above will fit including your brothers 02. If you just want to put your brothers on to see what the spring is like go ahead and give it a try just don't keep it on there once you are done.

Yep, just looking to see if I like the stock clutch spring vs my EPI black. The though of just swapping permanently had previously crossed my mind but after hearing what you guys are saying, there is no way I'll be doing that. I thought I had read somewhere that they had improved the design for '03 but couldn't find anyone saying whether they could be swapped back and forth or what was actually changed. Thanks guys for the quick responses.
