Well the spring riding season is almost here, I'm wondering what everyone's plans are on rides and mods? My plan is late March early April Norther Michigan ride with my step son on his wicked Yz250 and cousin on his worked Raptor 700. In the next month Id like to add a set of springs to my Brute for a big more acceleration and response. Looking at some Dalton or VFJ springs, I'd love to try out the Trinity exhaust but the cost of that and a Power Commander 5 is pretty high. Also thinking about picking up a sport quad used for when I want to go real fast in the woods.
The wife and I are planning a trip to Utah in the fall. It will be the first time we've been on a ride together shy of short daily outings and she's still somewhat of a novice rider so it should be a learning experience. I have plans next weekend to ride soggy bottom (local atv park) with my brother and cousins. My brother is riding a Honda 450R and both cousins on RMZ 450's so I may take one of the sport quads instead of the brute. I'll make it out to finger lakes at least once over the summer, deepwater, perry lake, maybe chadwick. I go to all the local places at least once a year. I also have trails right here on the property that we ride any chance we get.
I've noticed a lot of new local (to Missouri) parks opening up lately. Riderplanet shows a lot more options than it used to and makes me smile. New places to explore are always a welcome change.
I've been working on my 650 SRA seems like nonstop for the past few months trying to get it the way I want it. Dual battery mod, Dynatek CDI, Elka rear shock, HD front springs, 2 inch lift, 1.5 spacers, fixed all the common electrical issues (before they became an issue), LED lighting front and rear, all the fluids changed, new plugs and valve adjustment, and rebuild and rejetted the carbs. Going out today to sync the carbs and work on bypassing the engine brake. I'm attempting to modify the engine brake system to allow it to work off of a switch so I can turn it on and off as I see fit. Its been a bit challenging but on paper, I've got it figured out. I'll test my theory today and see how it goes.
I currently have a KFX 400 and a KFX 700. I recently sold the 450R to fund other projects as I just didn't really like the machine. That thing belongs on a track and since I don't run tracks anymore it just didn't fit for me. Of the two sport quads, I like the 400 better in most cases. Its more nimble in the woods and has been far more reliable than the 700. I'll likely sell off the 700 in the near future to fund a utility quad for the wife.

I've got our annual family reunion in Moab over the Easter Jeep Safari weekend. Then in May, I'm headed down to the new, Obama approved Bear's Ears National Monument area (which hopefully Trump has abolished by then) to do a 500 mile camping trip expedition.
As for mods, I've pretty much got everything the way I want it now aside from maybe getting a Sgroi engine brake delete. Or maybe the switch setup Mrgoodwrench is working on if he sells it?
I keep you in the loop. If you have basic electrical knowledge of 12v systems you could probably build the system yourself. So far all I need are 2 12v relays, one dual output and one single, and a few one way diode's. Never really thought about selling it. Do you think there would be much of a demand for it?
We're just planning the normal year. There are a lot of riding opportunities locally for the weekends. Then off to the Jamboree in Utah this September.
Ya for heavy woods and trail ridding
Id get a 400ex the kfx is more track and dune in my opinion and the honda will take alot more beating with less frequent problems.. Iv owned the 2007 300ex ,2003 400ex and 2014 450r all did very well and i ride like its stolen ..
Change in plans on the 400ex, going to look at a 1999 Yamaha Warrior for DIRT cheap that was only used for ice fishing. Guy put a rear rack on it and only drove it from his house on the lake out to his fishing spots for the last few years. Warriors are turds stock, but I have priced and pieced out aftermarket parts online and for a few hundred bucks I can make this thing rip on the trails. For the asking price it cant be beat.
I've got two of them. They're still running fine, and I've had to fix very little on either. Love 'em on those really nasty trails because I can lift them easily out of a tight spot. I think they're still the lightest 4x4 utility quad of all time.
