Having ur wench get rolled off during the night can be a real bummer. A lot of quads get stolen just this way, caz we wuz drunk or just sleeping heavy. If u have a winch ( heck, u shouldnt ever go to the trails without a good wench ) and uve hooked her to the ignition switch, try this. Unroll her a few feet, pull her handlebars all the way to one side, make a loop of cable around the bars end and tighten up the slack. Remove key. Thieves aint gonna take the time or make the noise to try and get the wench loose. Then ur favorite quad will only roll in a circle and u wont lose ur wench.

Its merely a deterant (check my spelling). It would stop the person walking by that would think about taking it, but not much will stop a thief that is out to get your property. they would have the tools needed to quietly take your stuff.

I was taking courses at a community college, and I had an Suzuki DR250. I actually sat and watched thiefs steal my bike.. They cut the lock, and then used wire cutters and electrical tape to jump the ignition. They taped the wire cutters closed just enuff to jump the wires.. They did this in a matter of seconds, Was a couple guys, the others crowded around it so you couldn't see exactly what they were doing.

I was lucky though. I had gotten security, and the idiots couldn't get the bike started, and they even tried to roll it away, but my helmet was on it and it kept hitting the rear tire which slowed them down.. Security got one of the guys and my bike back..

Locks, and using the wench are just ways to deter the occassional punk kid from doing a smash and grab.. The carreer thief won't care if they really want your item... now, a .357 has stopping power.. LoL, but make sure they fall onto your property, or at least drag them onto your property before the police get there.

I just put my portable dog kennel next to the quads nobay can get close without my dogs going balistic. Then the .40 caliber protection device can be deployed, usually it was some kid who is peeing his pants and running after hearing the dog hit the door to the kennel.

A winch cable can be cut, but how hard is it to cut a kryptonite cable? I have the biggest I could find, 5/8" I think. I heard they are very hard to cut, but hate to buy a cable just to experiment. I load mine on the back of a truck and back it up to a brick wall. Mine was stolen out of the back of mine, by just being rolled out the back.

I was at a wildlife show and they had a booth for the Louisiana Guarddog. I have seen that before and thought it was a nice security thing, but not enough to hold a 4 wheeler in the back of a truck. I was strapping mine down to secure it, even though it's not good to compress the springs like that. But they had a video of a 4 wheeler in the back of a truck and was held by only the Louisiana Guarddog. They were bouncing that truck all over bumps and climbing steep hills and that ATV was held. Are they really that good and secure? Or was that just one of those promo video where the bumper hitch was actually broken off right after they stopped the video?

mine gets mad when I call her that...

My uncle, that worked all over the world, used to say, that " locks only keep the honest people honest"...

if someone wants something bad enough, they'll take it... but they have to know you have it, to want it... I'll be buying an enclosed trailer this year ( wish I had several years ago, when I first bought the quads )... you won't see all the race stickers all over my trailer when I get one, it'll be a "plain Jane", on the out side...
