several weeks ago, I lost my gas cap, while fueling the quads, on the trailer, at the gas station, while on the way to the 1st mud race of the summer...

needless to say, I was concerned about fuel contamination, during the crazy muddyness... ( I used duct tape )

after that weekend, I did a search on the forums, & found that the 2 gallon farm chemical plastic bottle covers were supposed to work ( new gas caps are $40.00, from Kawi )... turns out the threads are nearly good enough of a match... the balance of this summer, I had to wrap a few turns of black plastic tape around the threads, & screw the cap on... I suppose that the quad is metric, & the caps are SAE threads...

Thanks to CUEBALL, I just recieved a new (used ) one... I was just checking it out, & discovered that I can disassemble it, which will allow me to teather it with a stainless fishing leader, like I use on several small components on the quad... ( I have already teathered my seat, as I've lost one of those off the trailer as well ) ... as I do this gas cap teather, I can take a few pics & show you guy's what I'm doing, if anyone is interested...

This is the gas cap inner & outer seperated... the white part on the inner piece on the left, is the ratcheting tabs... note the hole in the white part, in the very center... this will allow room, for a pop rivet & backing plate, or a small bolt head, in that area. if a hole is drilled in the outer cap... it is my intention to pop rivet the swivel part of a stainless steel leader to the center of the outer cap, then attach the other end to either the rear rack, or drill a small hole in the rear body panel, & pop rivet the other end of the leader to that point... I had purchased several 12" - 14" leaders, I need to see if I have any left... I used several on my wheelie bar, to secure all the small parts...

I'll add more pics as I figure out what works...

I then inserted paper clips other thicker wire may work better,( I did this at my desk ), to keep the tabs from catching the inner half

once apart I drilled a small hole & used apop rivet & 2 backing plates, one on each side of the outer cap, to secure the steel leader to the outer cap...
