Okay, for a quick recap I sunk my Brute a few days ago. I've had my plugs out for a couple days now trying to let the cylinders dry out. I've pull crank it several times w/ the plugs out to try and force any remaining water out the spark plug holes. I have a bad battery on my Brute and it's dead and even if I charge it fully it'll only crank it over a few times before dying again.
I put the plugs back in today and I still won't even think about cranking. I choked it and didn't give it any gas. I turned over fine, it just would never fire off. Could the plugs be shot? Any thing else I can do to get it to fire off if it still won't crank after I replace the plugs? Only a small amount of water got into the cylinders and the engine was off when the water got in. |

Hi
remove plugs from the cylinder. attach one plug to the lead and hold it against the cylinder block " earthing the plug" crank the engine and look if the plug sparks. do this with both leads. If there is no spark then its an electrical problem ie ignition Hope this helps TOM |

hey, you are gonna wanna check and change your oil and oil filter as well. even if the engine was off when it went in, water will get anywhere. i buried mine and had to change the oil 5 times to get all the water out. you will also want to check your belt housing for water, depending on how deep you sunk it, water may have gotten in through the vent and is now just sitting in the bottom of the cover. cleaning/drying out the carbs would be a good idea, i cannot hurt. i would just go ahead and get new plugs, and a new battery while your at it... just make sure that if there is water in ANY PART of the motor or drivetrain, do not let it sit to "air out" you should try to get the water out asap. when you do get it started, let it idle for about 5 minutes, then take it on a NICE SMOOTH ride, nothing hard or intense, just something to rev the motor up, and dry it out.
you may want to check your other fluids as well, like your differentials, coolant, and anything else where water may have gotten. dunking a machine is not an uncommon thing, but with the proper maintenace and precautions, your machine will be just fine. PS- mine would not start for a good half hour that involved taking the plugs out, drying them out, tying again, and repeating the vicious cycle again. you just gotta work the water out. |
