OK I got around to fixing my 2005 p700 I had a front diff leak coming from the back of the front diff where the propeller shaft inserts into diff ok BIG SEAL around the coupling bevel and small one in the coupling bevel. Well I've been doing some reading and most people say if it leaks real bad it's probably because of the small seal so I took the nut lock 10mm off and checked it out ...... turns out I THINK it's the coupling bevel because it's got wear in to it where the big seal meets the surface... question is can it be cleaned up some with emery cloth or something more aggressive or will that take down the size of the couling bevel to much I think they go for $ 60.00 let me know and if your seal is leaking GET IT FIXED SOONER THAN LATER ! not like me.... her are some pic's of the scuffed up coulping bevel kind of hard to see but you get the Idea Thanks for any and all imput Anthony

It's tough to tell from pictures, but it looks like it should be replaced. Mine has marks in it also, but they don't look that bad. I just installed a new seal,it won't be long till I see if it ok or not.

I would just shim the seal out a little and let it run in a new place.

I'm not sure if that would be a good idea. It has teeth on it that would not be fully engaged if it's out farther.

A shim under the seal. It will put the lips in a new location.

I do it all the time. It works good if you have a good suffice for the seal to run on.

its kinda cool how rubber can wear out metal.

not saying that its cool your part is worn in.

but you would think that the seal would wear to nothing and the metal would just have a polished shin on it.

but then you got the dirt and grit that gets in there and works like a grinding wheel.

you can do what im going to do. is have the part cleaned then dipped in chrome. to make it nice and hard.

i wanted to find out if i could get a nikasil coating on it like whats found in sport bike cylinders. very hard thin coating last 4x longer then an iron cylinder.

this coating would not wear the seal would wear faster.

something to think about.

I would just replace the inner and outer seals; I bet your leak will be gone regardless of the grooving in the metal.
