Brute 650 VS 650I
Hi everyone I'm new to the forums and I must say there are some very knowledgeable people here.
Now I'm in the market for a new ATV and the Kawasaki V-twins are really tempting and the prices are just best bang for the buck. Now of course I've used the search button to find some answers, but after 11 pages I didn't find anything that would answer my questions.
1- What would be the best for 70% Trail rider, 20% Deep Woods, 10% Mud to the floor boards. What are the great advantages of Dual A-arms up front vs the MacPherson struts
2- I know that the SRA 650 has different jugs then the 650I which means that if any engine modifications is to be done I'm going to be looking at a 700crank for a BBK.
3- Are there 2 different version of the CDI for the 650s? I Can't seem to find the info on Dynatek.
4- Also what is the advantage of the 650i's dual 34 carbs VS the 650 dual 32carbs
Thanks
Dave F.

The SRA is more like riding a over weight sport quad, the IRS will be smoother riding and better in the deep mud.
The heads are better on the "I" but you can still get awesome power out of the SRA 650 heads and shouldn't be a concern unless your going all out.
The CDI's are different.
The bigger throttle bodies will benefit you more the bigger you go and the better your engine flows.

the power difference between the I and sra is definaltely noticable, the I is a potent lil bastard stock.. i have a brute 750I and a prairie 650 and i actually find the brute handles better, the front is way better because i find the struts are way too soft on the prairie.. but keep in mind my 750 is a bit wider than stock, and has energy suspension sway bar bushings that really takes the sway out.. the I has better heads, bigger carbs, lighter flywheel, better cams, etc..

I guess I dont agree with the IRS being better in mud. Every IRS I have seen is sitting MUCH lower than my SRA after one ride through the thick stuff. They gather and hold so much extra weight from the mud that the IRS sags terribly. That dont happen with the SRA.They may start out with more clearence, but they sure dont end up that way.

Then you need stiffer springs.
It will take away some of the good ride that they came with, but there is always a trade off.
The SRA's can do very well with a good rider, but in most cases the IRS's clearance will take over in the deep sticky mud.
I'll take the SRA Kawasaki's over the IRS Kawasaki for what I like, but if I bought a CanAm it would be a different story.

I like the SRA because less to work on and less to wear out .Looks simpler to work on.

i agree.. fewer moving parts = fewer parts to replace.
i'm not in mud very much and when i am it usually isn't deeper than the floorboards, so the sra is fine with me.
but in a couple years i would like to upgrade to the 650i/750i... theres a ton of stuff you can do to them to get them to handle as good as the sra.
it all depends on how much $$ you want to spend
