Question Dual Rear (Locking) Differential - Bayou 300

I just bought a very clean 2001 2WD Bayou 300 yesterday and I notice it has the dual (locking...positive traction) rear end option. The switch is down in the locked position now and I can't seem to get it to go up into the unlocked position. Is there a trick to this? I will order the manual, but I'd like to find out so I can use it this weekend. I'm guessing that if you leave it locked, it will wear out the rear end much faster when you turn.

Thanks for your help!

Yeah, it will wear the tires when you turn, especially on harder surfaces. I'd try going in reverse and trying to take it out.

EDIT I don't have one, that's just what I'd try.

I have a 2000 m********ike yours. It will hang up like that just about every time I try to disengage the rear locker. Try sitting still while ideling in gear, then just bump the throttle while pulling up on the lever. Takes a couple of tries sometimes. Love the locking rear makes it easier to drive around the yard and doesnt chew up the grass so bad.

Thanks guys, I got it working. I saw where the cable connected on top of the rear end and I just manually switched it back and forth 3-4 times right on top of the rear end and it works fine now. I guess it had not been used in a long time and just didn't want to work. Thanks again for your help and comments!
