I am doing a Tecate project that I was wanting to use a KFX450 engine but due to aviablility I cant find one, so I am looking at a KFX400 engine. Can I build it to smoke a built honda and Yamaha 450's?

Thanks
Tyler

Stock 400's is around 30-32 RWHP. Yes they can be made fast. I had one with a Full Yoshi, Dyna CDI, 40mm FCR Carb, Ported, Hot cams stage 2, 1 layer base gasket, Uni Filter, and several more mods. I had no problem running with some modded 450's, Stock 450's was not much of a problem. You can make them fast.

Tyler,

If you're looking to make a KFX400 motor scream, get in touch with the folks at Waldron Kawasaki in Issaquah, WA (98027).

The owner's grandson built a monster KFX400, I want to say 510cc. I threw a leg over it when they had it at the shop last summer...Wow! The young man was talking about possibly selling it, the problem is he's got over 10 grand into the thing and will never recoup it. Last I heard when I was down there pickin up some Tecate parts they said Jr. was down to $5500. Not a bad price at all, considering it eats heavy breathing, piped and tuned 450's for breakfast.

27 hp is about what a 400ex is. Most Z/KFX's dyno at 29-32 hp, most is around 31. I would say the one I had was in the low 40's.

The funny thing is i hada drz400e wich is the same motor and all the research i did on it said that stock now it had right at 48 hp this link here says 50hp its at the flywheel of course but dang 2000 Suzuki DR-Z 400 E specifications and pictures and the one i had had a yoshimura pipe a revbox and stage one hotcams so it was pumpin close to 60 id say they can be made simpley burtal specially with one of the 440 kits a lil portint and good fat header and ignition mods to change the curves the addition of the rexbox and a bigger came with a high flow air box and filter it has to breath to make power the bigger it is the more it needs to breath and syntheic lubricants help out to but greatly reducing friction in the lower cases im planning on getting me a kfx400 and im be doin alot of mods to it just to see what i can get out of it and that link realy amazed me thx for readin and thx for the makers of this discussion group.

Dig up a KX 500 motor, 60HP and vibrates like a paint shaker.
