Here is some foam I am going to try for skid plate foam. This would have helped I think in the winter months to keep snow and mud/ice bergs piled up on the plates.
People place foam between the skid plates and various parts of their bikes to keep the mud from accumulating when they ride. This reduces unnecessary weight during a ride. In my area, the winter weather can cause clumps of mud and ice to freeze onto your quad while riding. A friend's Prairie built up enough mud on top of the A-Arm guards that his CV booths were rubbing the frozen ice/mud. This would have worn a hole in the boot if left long enough!

I can see what you're getting at but surely the first puddle you go through you'll add more weight than you could imagine? <_<

The proper foam is like fuel cell phone in a race cars fuel cell....it will not absorb the elements...just slow them down or block them.

I'd try spray on insulation/foam... the stuff you are using will soak up the mud/water.

Yeah I agree, I need some of the coarser foam. I will stop by the Foam and Fabric store tomorrow. I was just trying to keep mud from building up on the A-Arms and the Full Glide skids. Seems they are the worst areas. I sprayed them down with WD-40 before installation. I imagine they will hold some water weight but probably not as much as weight as all of the mud stacked up. The rear skid still needs some more foam. I should have used a little thicker foam or layered it up some. The rear skid plate is poorly designed anyways. You have to remove it to change the rear end oil! I though of cuttign and drilling but that was too much work to mess up my 135 dollar swing arm skid! Besides, one good rock already dented it and cracked a weld.
