It may have been like this all along, but I noticed it after a long wide open blast. I slowed down and went to turn around, and the quad sounded funny and was down on power. I shut it off and checked it over. Everything looked ok, so I fired it up. it started right up and ran fine. It was then that I noticed a noise coming from the left side. It wasn't that loud, and may have always been there, but I shut it off and took it home. I pulled the cover off the side and spun the motor over with a ratchet. I could feel a "grinding" in the ratchet and hear a "whine". It is coming from the starter gear. The gear looks an feels fine, but is noisy. Do they all make noise?

you will have a whine niose when you turn the engine clockwise from the flywheel side because of the oneway gaer that goes to the starter.
