I have a 14t Front sprocket for my 02 mojave. which way are the threads on the bolt? i can't seem to get it loosened... also have a 37t rear sprocket on the way
Thanks. Don't know if i will need to install it after my installation of my 37t rear sprocket or not. anyone know the speeds they get with 12/37? or 14/37?
do you know the speed you get at any configuration? if you do you can figure it for yourself, it's simple multiplication and division to figure the new maximum....assuming you don't run out of power before reaching it. If so, post the existing speed and ratio.
im getting around 62mph right now. 66 if i push the rev limiter hard. plenty of power to get there. its got high compression piston and rings and few more after market parts. im pretty sure im running 12/41 but it rides to high rpm and first gear is still useless even in mud i can use second without a problem. whats the internal transmission ratio?
Use an impact. Anything else is about a complete waste of time. If you don't have one go to harbor freight and pickup an electric one for 40 bucks. You'll use the piss out of it! Mine is 45 years old and still works great.
It's still not fun to do, but I always put a bar through the rear sprocket to keep things from turning rather than use the transmission to hold it. Less chance of breaking internal parts that way. I also use our 3/4 drive socket set, but not everyone has that laying around.
So, you currently have a 12/41 (0.293 ratio) and want to go to a 14/37 (.378 ratio). If you're getting 66mph currently, you're new maximum will be 85mph (66*[.378/.293]) assuming you still have enough power to hit the rev limiter. You may be surprised at how quickly the power goes away. After all, wind resistance goes up by the square of your speed. You also asked about a 12/37 ratio, it would get you to 73mph.
its has absolutely no problem hitting rev limiter now. 62 is about all it will do. 66 is down hill and holding on rev limiter and it will spray oil.. from what iv'e read its a release valve that sprays the oil.
I got that it has plenty of power now and I don't mean to say you won't have enough later. I was just trying to point out that the speed I told you is the maximum achievable assuming nothing else changes, but that we know other things will change...one example being wind resistance. Which when increasing from 66mph to 85mph rises to 165% of what it was previously so you may find that you have something else limiting you after you make the change.
I installed the 37t much better so 12/37 right now. i will gps it when its not raining. but i think it can handle the 14t with absolutely no problems. it still pulls very well.
Took her trail ridding yesterday gearing is good. i don't think 14t would like mud or wet areas in the trials tho. so i think im gonna leave it at 12/37. its just about right and i can already notice the gas mileage.
i drive 35-50mph in the main trail. its as wide and smooth as a highway. in the rough trails probably 10-20mph depending with slowing down to like 4mph for mud and water. im also running 22inch aggressive rear tires. 21inch front.
