hey guys, got a dumb question for ya. im knew to mixing gas and oil cause i have a 4 stroke dirtbike that runs of regular pump gas. i just bought a '88 tecate 4 and bought 5 gallons of gas. and i put a full bottle of oil in it.the guy i bought it from told me put the whole thing in, but after i did, i saw there were 2 different size of oil containers so im not sure which one he was talking about. did i put to much in,or is it ok? the manuel says a 20:1 mixture, is that ok or should it be higher?

sorry to sound so dumb, but im knew to 2 strokes, so thanks for the help, and try not to laugh at me, lol.

What size oil container you put in will determine what ratio you pre-mix is. I've always used 32:1 here in AZ. I'm sure you'll get a wide range of opinions on what to run. Good Luck!

i used a regular 5 gallon gas tank, i put 5 gallons in it and mixed one of the 1 quart containers of oil in it. what ratio is that and was i supposed to use the whole bottle? i just want to make sure i didnt waste that gas and that its still ok to use.

If you added 1qt to 5gal (20qts) of gasoline you're ok. Technically that is what the factory specs call for. A lot of people on here say that they run 32:1, 36:1 or 40:1 without trouble. But I had the same question (misc questions anyone???-forum) and I think the way King of Kawies explained it made most sense. Its along the lines of we are alowed to thin the mixture out a little more these days because the quality of gasoline and oils has improved alot since the 80's when these were made but he also advised not to run much leaner than a 26:1 because that also lubes your crank. These are high reving machines. Take precautions because the parts are rare.

no not 40 ounces. 40:1 is the ratio not how many ounces to one gallon. buy a ratio rite and it will have the ratios for different amounts of fuel.
