did some speed runs today and all i could get was 68mph out of it, i was really hoping to break 70. we used a radar gun and gps to make sure the speed was accurite. using an hpd plain spring with vforcejohns clutch mods the shift rpm is at 7200-7300, at 68mph it was at 8050rpm. i'm fairly sure i'm not into the peak power yet so i need to get the rpms up more. i'll order up some more parts this week and try again next weekend.
i've got a short video that is still uploading, will post a link later tonight!

That is still fast in a side x side. Probably alot faster than you can go most anywhere in it but I know how it is faster the better.

Sounds good. I thought it would be faster than that but you aren't able to use all of the overdrive.
before at 58 MPH you were on the Limiter @ 9200?. now at 68 you are just breaking 8000 rpm. it has the gearing, just needs more power, and to tinker with the clutch setup
Like we discussed. Try a lighter spring like the OR/Blue or the Maroon, or Comet Black. the HPD#6 is hard hitting but is about the worst top speed spring out there.
If we still need to get the RPM"s up you can Only use the 08 Brute X1 weights.
Also If you have an LM1 tinker with jetting. too righ or too lean on top and you won't see all you have to offer.
Thanks for the feedback

i feel stupid Mickey asking you if you are sure, the only reason i do is that when the clutch was stock and i got to 50+mph the motor sure felt like it was pulling hard all the way to 58mph at 9200rpm?

i'm going to try the comet black and the or/blue next week also getting those weights just incase.
the clutch does hit very hard off the line now and pulls real good up to about 50mph, above that the acceleration seems to really drop off. with the stock clutch and spring as i said above it felt like it was still pulling hard at 58, i could be wrong but it sure felt that way. i know my way around the motors ok but these clutches are another thing, still trying to understand exactly how they work.
can you explain to me why the hpd plain spring is about the worst top speed spring, and how that works. i just want to fully understand this clutch.
thanks!

Chase have you opened the air box, and rejeted? The comet black is a good spring. Don't rely on GPS for short distance because of delay almost 2 seconds. Radar gun is good.
Not sure on your clutching but I gained 2 mph today with 1" taller rear wheels and 4 lbs lighter. I'm trying to get a good drag setup so been experimenting on my Brute.

I will check the dyno charts but I'm nut sure if its going to be the sams because I didn't do it on the same motor as you have, it was on a prairie with the same 840 and stage 3's.The prairie has longer smaller pipes and small carbs and longer intake lenth.

you don't need to rev that high. 7600-7800 rpm is where you want to be
DON"T chase an RPM. these are not 2 strokes. these motors can be clutched very broad in the RPM range and still put the power to the wheels
we saw on the dyno that making 730's with stage 2 cams revving 7900 rpm that was too high and LOST RWHP. 7300-7400 was optimum for best rwhp. more than that you lost power, less than that you lost power
John
what the HPD does is when compressed it is a VERY heavy spring to push fully closed. this closes the clutch slower at higher speeds. It is a very heavy hitting
