I have the loose pinion nut on the rear diff of my 08 750. I realize that I have to remove the rear diff to get at the pinion nut. I am wondering if you can get the rear diff out without taking out the gas tank and all the rear plastic off? I see pics of guys with the same problem with the entire machine apart in the rear end but was wondering if this is necessary to get the diff out? Any help or hints would be appreciated, Thank you

theres a rear diff mounting plate under the fuel tank bolted to the frame that needs to be removed

Yes you do have to remove the gas tank. (Once you remove the fenders its not much more work, not to mention it gives you an excuse to drill holes in the gas tank shroud)
The exact same problem happened on my 09 Brute. (Pinion nut back off) except I didnt catch it in time and it locked up my rear brakes on the trail and I boiled the diff fluid which in turn ruined all the seals and bearings. Minus the pinion gear and drive gear, it was a complete rear dif rebuild.
How did you notice yours was loose? I think one way of checking is to rock the machine back and forth a few inches to see if there is any play in the pinion shaft going into the dif.
Dont forget you are going to need a special tool to tighten that nut.....and dont forget to loctite it!!!! I think that is the reason that some machines have this issue: They forgot to loctite the nut from the factory.
