I've been having a nightmare with my quad lately to say the least! Anyways, I've now realized why my quad has been running poorly and that the front head gasket is shot.

I noticed tonight that the front exhaust downpipe was smoking and that it was leaking oil out of the head gasket. As of right now there is no coolant in the oil or coming out the exhaust.

Could this type of head gasket leak result in the quad running poorly and backfiring through the intake while accelerating? Also how difficult of a job am I looking at? Should I do both gaskets while I'm at it?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds more valve/cam related to me, but thats just a guess without more info

I asked for a picture (not to insult the op) to determine if it is infact the head, and not the rocker box cover leaking due to the silicone crap that seems to never hold up. Back firing out the carb could indicate a fuel blockage, making it lean.

On the other hand, if the above is not the case, then i would say valve train.

Sounds like the valve cover is leaking and not the head gasket.
