610 4x4 tongue weight

new to the forum but why not jump in with a question. i did a search but couldnt come up the answer. my friend is getting a new mule 610 4x4 and he is having them put on a trailer hitch. he was concerned about being told that it only had a 80 lb tongue weight limit. does this number sound correct or is it a safe number. is it a matter of the material the hitch is made of or the strength of the frame.

that is probably what the hitch is rated for... the bed capacity is 400 lbs... i am not sure where my manual is to look it up... hope this helps

80 lbs doesnt seem like much. i keep picturing my 11 year old stepping on it and it bending down. the mule is coming home on thursday so we will see about the hitch. i have seen aftermarket hitches rated for a heavier tongue weight but i am pretty good at metal fabbing so i am not too worried.
here is the hitch i built, it is a modified nissan xtera hitch... i have a 10" drop for it to keep the trailer level

that is a good ideal. does the hitch mount to the bed? do you have a picture of how it is mounted and i am guessing it doesnt hit the muffler when you dump the bed?

i have 2 bolts in each side, ,,, i added supports going to the bottom of the bed...

the hitch does hit the muffler i lose about and inch of travel, i could trim the supports going to the bed floor, but i am lazy... i didn't want to loose ground clearance so the bed mounted hitch was my only option

it is mounted with 6 "grade 8" 3/8 bolts... i have pulled crazy loaded trailers and 20' logs 18" dia on the big end... way over what it is rated to pull, i can't say enough for the little mule
