I got a bayou 220 from a local ranch, they said it wouldn’t start and they had gotten a nicer Honda to replace it. I changed the oil, filters and cleaned the carb. It was allways hard to start and the idle would fluctuate randomly, and get faster as it warmed up more. I got a carb rebuild kit for it, this more or less fixed the “wild” idle, the engine was still quite hard to start. A new issue also appeared after I installed the rebuild kit, at about 1/8 throttle and under load (like climbing my shallow ditch in first gear) the engine will break up, it will sputter and backfire, but if I give it more throttle it will slowly over come this and go up the ditch. This engine does have questionable compression but not terrible because it ran fine before the rebuild kit. I think it might be running rich or lean, or maybe a worse issue, any input is appreciated!
