Belt light just came on yesterday. Checked the intake and exhaust and they do not seem to be blocked. Also the belt cover is not hot. What could be the issue?

The belt light has nothing to do with heat. It either has timed out, as others pointed out to you, or the belt is very loose or beginning to shred and has tripped the "broken belt" inside the clutch/belt cover.
If you feel the belt is good, then do nothing other than just doing the belt switch reset. It's not a bad idea to pull off the belt cover and inspect the belt though, just in case.
