is it new or used/ what year?
Take it for a good spin, get it up to temp, at least 15-20 mins, make sure there are no overheating issues etc. Also test that the 4wd engages, inspect front end for loose parts/torn cv boots. Have a look at the electrical connections and look for dirt/mud/crud, i dunno about you but i have no interest in buying something that's spent it's life mudding.
Smokey, I disagree with the "spent its' life mudding" portion. I am a mudder (and trail (hunter) rider with the same bike) and plenty of my friends and myself pay much closer attention to the mechanical end than most trail/ sand riders. I believe that we make sure our bikes are in tip top shape because they HAVE to be. Just say'in.
what kind of compression #'s should this bike have?
anyone on the compression #'s

Be that as it may, it's just my personal preference. You never know if a guy swamped it before you, and numerous future problems could ensue. I'm starting to think i'll probably never buy used again. I'm a cheap bastard, but i think i should have followed my friends advice when they told me to go new..Especially since i'm seeing new 09 650's for $6999, i paid 4k for my 06
