Hello all, is it normal for the cam chains to stretch enough to skip and bust a valve? In taking my motor apart, the pistons and bearings looked perfect. I didn't realize those cam chains were such a wear item! I don't really abuse my quad, in fact I mostly baby it! Thanks for your thoughts, Andre

not a normal occurrence by any means. Maybe in a high mileage/hour machine

Yes, they do stretch. for the little you spend to replace them. I always do it. I've seen too many cam chain failures not to. they are all under 100 bucks. it's normally the rear cyl chain. you'll know when they stretch, they kink when you hold them.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the input. And yes, the machine has 6500 miles on it and over a 1000 hours!!! Lots of slow farm usage!
The rest of the motor seems to be very good still, so do you guys suggest chain & tensioner replacement at a certain mileage/hours? Thanks in advance--Andre:)
