Here in Indiana the dealer only gives a certified bill of sale. It looks like a title but it is not. It not needed for a sale. The bmv can give you a blank bill of sale to fill out when you buy or sell one and it is legal too.

I have titles for both of my atv's. In Pa if you want to register them you have to get them titled. You are supposed to title them and get liability insurance on them but I think that is more so dcnr can keep track of you.

Yup, all of ours have it. You can just use the certificate of origin that comes with the bike in Oregon if you want. When you sell though I have found it makes the buyer more comfortable having an "official" document in hand. Its only like $45 to get a title here.

It all depends what atate yo live in. In VT titles weren't issued untill 2005 before that it was just certificate of origins but they had problems with theft so the state made it to have titles after 2005. Check with your local DMV to see if is required or not.

I purchased a bike from Tennessee from a Kawieriders member and had it shipped to Oregon.

If I remember correctly I received a TN certificate of origin and a notarized bill of sale. Oregon DMV had no problem getting me a Oregon title.

The other thing I like about titles is a certificate of origin is a bearer instrument. You could take it along with the bike and bill of sale to DMV. They inspect the VIN on the bike and match it up. Run the VIN to make sure its clean and you get a title. They wont accept a title without a signature.

Now in Oregon you sign your drivers license on a touchscreen device. When the new owner presents the signed off title for transfer they pull up your signature on the computer and match it to the title signature.

just beware. alot of people buy/finance an atv, sell it and never get the title because they defaulted on the loan. now the quad is up for repossession, but if they don't find it, they can't do anything.

it's happening more now than ever with the economy.
