Hey there Kawasaki peeps! First off, don't hate me for possibly getting rid of my Brute and getting (possibly) a Polaris. I love my Brute and I'll still have my old Bayou! My Brute is one of the very first 750s made! I bought it new in Oct of 2004. But I find myself wanting to upgrade. I do various types of riding from ditch crawling, creek & river running, to dunes and lately lots of back road cruising. Playing in the mud and sand, I like the Brutes power over my Grizzly but the Brute is always the one getting stuck. And yes, it has good tires. The engine can't make up for a lack of ground clearance. Plus the suspension is rough, it lacks much travel, and the seat is like sitting on a brick!
I was hoping to stick with a new Brute but they haven't really done anything new since 2012 or '13 when they did some minor tweaks and added power steering. I was hoping for the 800 out of the Teryx but even that isn't keeping up with the others. And it looks like they are working their way out of the ATV business altogether! They have just the Brute 300 and 750 along with 2 kids atvs. I like their build quality but it just isn't enough compared to the new machines like the Renegade, Outlander, Sportsman, & Scrambler. I've always steered away from Polaris as a problem machine but they seem to be greatly improved over the last few years. I looked at some machines at a dealer near me and I like what I saw. To start, the 850 has a whopping 78HP! The 1000 has 90HP but I'm thinking for the $$$ difference I'll go with the 850. They also have new arched A-Arms which give lots of extra clearance! It's about 1.5" over the Brute! Shocks are also great with 9.6" and 10.25" of travel! I'm hesitant on the plastic racks but I do like all the built in storage. They are also pre-wired for a winch and the seat is VERY comfortable. I'm not a huge fan of the shift lever location but when in drive, it's pretty far forward. And the best part is I can get it about $1,000 cheaper than a new Brute!
So, what are you guys' thoughts, issues on the new Polaris Sportsman (possibly Scramber)? Any experience on the new ones which were updated/redesigned in 2017 (maybe 2016)? I was able to start one up but because of the snow outside, they wouldn't let me take it outside because they didn't want to get it "dirty". So my experience on one is next to zero.
