Maybe check your ground wires where they attach to the frame

Check the speed sensor and wires,it's right behind the foot brake lever.
I had the same problem a few years ago.
The connector was broken and kept coming loose.

Had this happen before either (like said above) speed sensor wire or the speed sensor it's self has gone bad.

Mine would not go into 4x4 even if the speedo worked. Replaced the speed sensor a month ago and no problems ever since.

The Last snow strom we had ,when I went out to my prairie to plow it was stone dead(original battery) so I pull started it .While it was running ,when I gave it some trottle the speedo went up like a tach.I thought at first that something sorted in the speedo from running it with the battery so dead .The next day I went and bought a battery for it and it was fine. These machines are pretty rugged.
