Grinding noise when shifting gears

9050 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Brutey 750
Guys, i need your help/advise. While plowing the massive amounts of snow we received this week, my 2006 Brute Force 750 makes a loud clunk/grind when i shift from any gear to another. It sounds terrible like something is going to fall out from underneath. I try and wait for the idle to come down before i shift, seems yo make no difference. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance guys.

tight means tight.............

Idle it low as you can.........just so it runs ok after it warms up..........then check and tighten the bottom front and upper rear motor mounts and brackets...............then adjust the shifter linkage......get it just right because its very sensitive...............if you don't stop before you shift.........you will eventually tear something up in the trans..............
Thanks for the quick reply. I have been having trouble with it idling anyway. Had to adjust the throttle play and cant seem to get it to idle right now. (nother problem for another day i guess-if i use the idle knob on the side of the engine it will not affect the idle at all, have to adjust it at the handlebar with the throttle cable, something is out of whack). i will try and adjust the linkage, from what i hear this can be a pain. We'll see i guess.
