how do I hook up my kickstart return spring

I have a 84 tecate, and yes it screwsand the repair manual but it doesn't explain it too well. I had a friend help get it hooked up 4 me and it wasn't the right way. It worked 4 about 4 days then slowly started slipping more and more so now I can't even kick it over. any easy explaination?
