kfx 400 race worthy??

can a 2005 kfx400 with a moose air filter, slip on exhaust (no jet kit) and extended axle and a-arms be fast enough to race

You can race anything and have fun..that's what its all about.

Go for it. As with any kind of racing, setup/rider ability is just as important as HP

like aganst 450s and 400s on a nationals track not supercross but still with jumps and whoops and competition

It's all about how you ride and getting use to it. Getting the suspension a handling would be the first thing I would want to do if I was going to do that kind of racing.

The biggest factor will be your skill level. I've seen guys with deep pockets and trick bikes get their ass handed to them by someone on a near stock bike. A fairly good measure is #1 are you "running out of power" when practicing? You feel like you could handle more speed but the bike just doesn't have it. #2 Are you bottoming the suspension a lot? Not just over jumps but in dips and smaller obstacles.
....and invest in a jet kit, especially if your bike is back-firing when you let off the throttle....
