I have a 1991? Kawasaki KSF 250 Mojave. It’s got a 12 V AC lighting system, and I’d like to switch it over to 12 V DC. Does anybody have any experience or tips with this. I assume I’d have to put a rectifier in there that switches it over to 12 V DC, but I don’t know how will that would work with the varying power of the AC input.
Better check again. None I know of has or ever had 12 V A/C..for anything. If this one does, it'll be the first. On all I know of, all systems and lights are DC current. AC was/ only at the stator output on most.
Yeah generally the stators put out 3-phases of ac current. The rectifier converts that into usable Dc current then the regulator part of that same unit provides the wattage necessary to power everything and charge the battery.
Still has to invert it to DC...if it is an actual stator. If it's a magneto instead, that may be a different story...but it shows a stator along with the rectifier & regulator as be separate components. Man that an old puppy...lol.
Yeah it’s old but still runs great. Just trying to fix it up a little
