I have a 2010 KVF 650, very low mileage (xx), used mostly for towing a Wessex flail mower cutting a large flat grass field, fairly constant revs. Been pretty much trouble-free until recent weeks when it has started overheating. Will be OK for about 30 mins and if I stay under 4mph while towing the flail and the sun’s not out it can go for an hour without overheating. The warning indicator comes on, I let it cool down for 30 mins then re-start. I’m no mechanic so need help. The radiator is clear, the fan works and obviously kicks in pretty early on. Reading around the subject it seems the most likely causes seem to be either the coolant, the thermostat or a head gasket. I drained and replaced the coolant, followed the instructions and left the radiator cap off while allowing bubbles to come out with the bike on tickover. The radiator boiled after no more than 5 mins which was pretty alarming. Not sure what to do next, new thermostat? Any advice ?
