This is a very dumb question, so apologies in advance!
I have an old Mule 2510 with ~1300 hours on it that I happened to buy from a neighbor for $700. Obviously there are things it needs, and I'm slowly working through them. But I'm definitely not a mechanic so I'm handling what I can (oil change, plugs, wires, etc) and using professionals for things that seem awful (mainly replacing the effing starter, at least so far).
Its running pretty well at this point, but whenever I go to shift it into gear it grinds, both forward and reverse. It goes in, but obviously if you continue grinding, its only going to get worse. So my half informed question is: given that this is a small, relatively crude motor and vehicle, is this an unsyncronized transmission where you have to shift it a certain way (like shifting into first before shifting into reverse in some old crappy manual cars), or is this more likely a worn out clutch, or something I'm not even thinking about? Nothing seems to be crazy expensive to replace so I'm happy to fix whatever (especially given what I paid for it), but I'm not even sure how to start diagnosing the problem.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
