So i got a kawasaki Mule 550 cant find the serial number so not sure what year it is. Previous owner put a new starter on it and traded it in when he couldn't get it to run. I was told it " leaked gas out of the carb." So after a new carb, valve adjustment new plug the crazy thing wouldn't hit a lick and indeed it would blow all the misted fuel out the carb inlet. I had about 145 psi compression so valves were ok. After a few days i finally realized the previous owner had put a newer model starter on it and the motor was turning backwards. So i took my dewalt drill and 15/16th socket and turned the motor ccw looking at the flywheel and she started right up!!!

So I'm looking for a starter that turns cw(looking from the pinion gear end) which in turn will turn my motor ccw. I think the spiral on the shaft and bendix/pinion would prevent it being reversed somehow. Anyone have a cw rotating starter?

Update:I was able to find quite a few by searching for mule 500 starter as they were all cw starters.

thanks ill look closely there, have you ever replaced the rear axle seal behind the bearing at the hub, i'm suspicious my seal is gone as there was lots of caked on grease/oil in the brake assembly.

the seal has the "g" pointing to it, i suspect the bearing will be a booger to get out. do you think the half axle will slide out, or will i have to unbolt the axle housing from the transmission?

The cables are sort of seized up on the emergency brake, they still work but i have to wiggle and pull on em to get them to release, i pulled the drum off but cant see a way to remove the cable. the starter i got actually had a spec sheet in the box and iirc was made in usa. so if anyone needs a ccw turning starter i have one for real cheap
