hi i replaced the old battery in my 04 kfx 400 because it would no longer hold a charge and the leads were all but broken off. i replaced it with the same exact battery and i drove it that day in the rain the next day it was dead and i charged it up and rode it again but the next day agian it was dead so i assumed maybe it got shorted somehow so i took the battery back and got it replaced again and i drove it once and now the battery is dead again so i dont know what keeps causing the batterys to die on me...any ideas?

I am having the exact same problem on my kfx 450. My battery keeps going dead on me, it's a very intermitent problem though it doesn't do it all the time and there is no telling when it will do it. I took it into the dealer while it was still under warranty and of course it would not go dead in the 2 weeks that they had it. So they pretty much told me they had no idea what is taking the charge off the battery while it sits. After I got it back from dealer it didn't do it for quite a while then suddenly just recently, after my warranty is expired, it did it again. If anybody has any ideas we would both be very interested in your insight...

I was haveing that same problem with my bike and when I would leave mine sitting for a week or 2 every other time my battery would be dead so I baught a new battery and it was still doing it and i noticed that with my key in the off postion and my kill switch left on the run position it would drain the battery so i just make sure that every time im done rideing to flip the kill switch to the off position and the key also the off position ans since ive been doin that i havent had my battery go dead on me in almost a year and one of my friends ltz's is the same way also

The battery drain issue seems to be ECU related. There have been several guys over at the KFX450HQ site have had the same problem. They were able to narrow it down to the ECU. Replaced the stock ECU with a Procom ECU and that seems to have fix thier battery drain issues. I personally have never had a battery issue with mine, but if I do, thats going to be 1 of my 1st suspects.
