The tip of the sensor should be at the center of the pipe and at a 10-15 Deg. angle to the horizontal. If not... any liquid contacting the sensor(usually at cold start up) will cause thermal shock and kill the sensor.Also placing it too close to the header will cause it to fail,from too high of heat. Placing it in this position will not adversly affect the flow in the pipe.
