this may be of interest to some, I have a couple Mules a 550 and 2 610s, used around the farm and lake, looking at the electrical diagram Kawasaki offer reverse lights on European models but not on North America models.

After looking over the harness they are pre wired for reverse lights and backup alarms, what you need is a ATV Neutral Switch Replacement Fits for Yamaha Grizzly 700 2007 2008, these are available for 4 dollars on Aliexpress, dealer would have them but not for 4 dollars.

On the drivers side shifter housing there is a bolt, remove it and install the neutral switch, close by there is the wore it snapt onto the switch, the light wires are in the rear light harnes, untangle them and connect to the light of choice, now all my machines have reverse lights and handy when workig at night, beats carrying a flashlight

all the best

Welcomed advice tip Lawrencenoon, appears to be same on ‘21 mule SX. Doing same (awaiting Amazon “Motadin neutral switch pictured”). Been wanting to automate a backup light when plowing driveway. I have not yet installed this part but it‘ll be the first attempt. I’ll compare length to existing neutral switch to confirm this item is same length..and as you say good t go, I think your logic also applies to adding a horn with using European options wiring…Thanks for posting your advice

Muler, the switch is just a spring loaded plunger that grounds the wire you will find with the harness, this wire is traced to the back by the brake light, with this wire by the light there is one that has 12v when ignition is turned on

to check length remove the bolt on the housing, have Mule in neutral and screw in the switch, it should fully install no issue, take it out and put Mule in reverse, re install switch it will have spring pressure last couple turns, you can test with a ohme meter

installed this on 2 610s and a 550, works great

horn you need a steering wheel center the wire is there if you install it.

Yes, was aware of the operation and function of existing neutral switch from reviewing parts diagram and a blurry schematic. It was the schematic that tipped me off on the European options. I checked the European parts diagram and confirmed both neutral and reverse were same part number. I had drafted a post but thought best to install first then post. i happened to come across yours accidentally so I didn‘t want to publish what you had already discovered. I’m new to the mule SX and only put on 12 hrs of winter driving so reluctant to post anything until i know it works. Since you have already done this, credit to you for finding, installing and posting. your post gave me additional confidence that it does work, thanks again.

on a side note I’m going to install a oil pressure and oil temperature gauges to monitor health of engine, i have a steep hill to climb regularly and I wanted to ensure oil pump pickup wasn’t starved during the climb. The existing oil temperature sensor is only a switch to light dash indicator, I prefer to see gauges before it gets to indicating a hi temp. I have to do more research on where to get oil pressure from as I have yet to see any pressurized oil plug. Just like ammeters and volt meters to monitor charging and battery health. I bought a 0-200A ammeter for winch load monitoring and combo 0-4K tach & 0-60kph speedo to round out instruments and some functional bling lol
