I am new to 4 wheelers and need some information. I just purchased a 2008 Teryx 4x4 side by side I am having some problems with the clutch / gears. The problem is it is kind of hard to get in gear without grinding the gears and at times it slipped out of gear plus the belt squeals until you get it going. The question is do I need a new clutch or one of the rebuild kits? Thanks in advance.

First, the deflection is incorrect...your description indicates it is too tight. 22-27mm is the range, 23-24mm is the target. As for popping out of gear, that usually indicates either a loose engine mount or a damaged shifter fork or gear set. Try adjusting the linkage first and checking motor mounts.

As I said I am new to 4 wheelers so I am not sure what you are talking about when you say “deflection

I hate to ask after I said I understand it all now, but, would the drive belt being worn out be causing this and if not where do you get these shims. I hate to keep bothering you but I sure do appreciate your help.
A warn belt usually has excessive play or deflection as well as narrowed width and glazing...however with Kawasaki's CVT design, it can also have a glazed under side where it rides on the primary's spindle which may also cause some pulling or squealing. A full inspection should be done. The specs are in the manual. If out of spec or glazing is noted, replace the belt. The factory always sets the deflection on the first one and there is usually enough shims in the secondary to take care of most any needs. However, any parts house like cheapcycleparts.com will have extra shims. Be aware that you will have to either buy, build or borrow a spring compressor to dismantle the secondary. As you may need to pull the primary, there is also a special puller needed as well as a torque wrench for installation. There are some YT vids that can help you.
