You should be able to push a 54" blade pretty easily. I have a 54" Warn plow for my 650. Plenty of power. I don't see why a 400 wouldn't push it. Plus I wouldn't go less than a 54" cause that way when you angle the blade, it is still wider than your rig. A 48" angled will be narrower when angled and then you end up driveg on your windrow. The Warn plow is fairly cheap on Ebay.
I have a 350 Wolverine with a 54" blade that has no troubles pushing snow. I can't see any reason why your 400 wouldn't either maybe even a 60" but no bigger. I have the 60" Kimpex Click N go plow that works good for me. The one on the Wolverine was home made and better built then the new one and pushes snow alot better IMHO. It don't ride up on the snow like my new one does sometimes when the conditions are right, but it's still good.
I have a 48" Kimpex plow that started it's life on a Prairie 400. It's served me well for 12 years, but you could easily push a 54" or 60".

Thanks for the info. I have access to a 48" Kimpex but so far have not been able to get it mounted on the 400. Plate doesn't fit quite right. How did you mount yours?
I bought the Kimpex plow mount to specifically fit the KVF 400. When I bought the 650, I bought the specific mount for the KVF 650, and used my old plow.
