I thought it had just busted but when i went in to replace it today i found most of the negative terminal had melted. WTF, anyone seen that happen before?

i had just winched my buddy out, once i got it all spooled back in bam the quad shut off, no juice. Tried the pull start and it came right back on. Thought ok killed the battery winching and rode back, it was about 9 miles away and i noticed my headlights were flashing and the dash was going of and on. Turned the lights off and followed my buddies with theirs on. When we got back to the trucks i noticed it was disconnected and sparking but i guess the ride home really killed it.

Poor grounds cause this. Make sure your engine ground and battery ground is clean and tight.
