Intermittant fan is usually caused by the Fan Breaker under the seat going out. The breaker is grey in color with a small green or red reset button wraped in a black rubber cover with 2 wires pluged into the breaker. The breaker is normally located center left side under the seat. Disconnect and replace with a 15 amp blade fuse and let the bike run to warm up enough for the fan to cycle on & off. If the temp light comes on again, then you have another problem. Let us know if you need more help.

Hey guys..i'm new on here and came to this site to find an answer to pretty much the same problem this guy is having....I have a 2005 Brute force 750 and my bike keeps over heating also...the fan seems to only come on when it wants to...but of course when it doesnt the bike overheats....anyway i direct wired the fan and it works, and checked the fan switch which is good also....I tried to check the breaker but could'nt get much info from that...Do you think i should try the 15 amp blade breaker on mine or do you think mine may be something else going on??? Any help would be great!! Thanks!!

.anyway i direct wired the fan and it works, and checked the fan switch which is good also....
you can't check the fan switch, unless you pull it out of the radiator and place the end in say some vegetable oil heated to 220*.....I think they actually close around 208* but boiling water won't really work to good

ok guys, so i replaced the breaker, and the fan switch is good....started it up and let it run and again the fan did not come on and the temp. light started blinking again...I don't know what to try next...Does anybody have any ideas on why my fan isn't coming on???? Like i said i know the fan works because i direct wired it and it worked...Anyway i really need help on this one guys...Thanks in advance...Kenny:confused:

Yes, the Fan Breakers are natorious for going bad, that is the whole reason for replacing them with the 15 amp fuse.

For your fan problem, I would put things back to normal and see if the fan works properly, if not then check the Fan Relay located under the seat in the very back center if remember correctly. Regardless if the fan relay is the problem leave the 15 amp fuse in place of the fan breaker, it will save you some headache's later on.

Like i said i have already replaced the breaker with a 15 amp fuse, then put everything back together and started it up let it run for awhile and the temp light still came on and the fan never did come on...What else could it be???

I will try the fan relay and i will let you know what happens with that...Thanks and let me know if theres anything else i should check...

The only bad thing about putting the fan on a switch is that you could forget to turn the fan on and cause the bike to overheat. A lot of guys install a manual switch, but personally I like thew idea of it comming on automatically (orginal design), that way I dont have to remember to the fan on and off.

I thought about putting mine on a switch but like yall said I don't want to forget it..

Muddy brute I couldn't find the relay you were talking about. I have a service manual somewhere. I'm sure that will show it.

It seems like alot of people have had the same issue. Nobody has found a fix for it? I could cut the hot and hook it to the battery like someone else stated but I would really liketo find the problem and fix it right.

I'm still fighting it I will update yall later. Thanks

The dealer mech. told me it was in the wiring harness itself the only way to find the wire would be take the whole harness off and trace down the wire, thats why I just ran the hot wire from battery. The relay I think your talking about is in the left side upper part of radiator the wires are covered by a rubber boot, I have haynes manual for my bike and it says to take the wires of and hook a 12v source on the wires pos and ground the fan should work if the relay(temp sensor) is the problem. if it doesn't work it is the fuse under the seat, or your fan is bad. I priced a temp sensor they are close to $100.

Check all wires under the seat for corrosion or broken connections going into the plugs/harness. This is also a common problem.

sounds like the fan switch(sensor) maybe bad, that's the sensor that screws into the radiator and the two wires hook into it.

Also the easiest way to run a toggle to turn the fan on manually as well as have it work as from the factory, is to splice into those two wires that run to the fan switch sensor and run them to a toggle switch, one leg from each wire to the toggle. The fan switch (sensor) is just that, a switch.....when it reaches a set temperature it closes the circuit and allows the 12 volts to run through it and to the fan.

also make sure your radiator is full or you may not be getting enough water across the sensor

Like i said guys i got the problem fixed! Thanks again for all the info! I checked everything...took out the fan sensor and put in boiling water then tested with a voltage meter and the sensor was good...then i replaced the fan breaker with a 15 amp fuse...Neither of them were the problem...I used SMan750's advice and ran a wire from the battery to the fan breaker and everything works now as if it were new!! Must be a common wire breaking or going bad in the harness somewhere!! But its fixed now!!!

Anybody that has the same problem try everything i did and that should fix it as far as i am concerned....Thanks guys!!

I have a 2010 Brute Force 750I, it seems to overheat only after some muddin or gettin stuck.I wash out radiator, it works fine, I was wondering if there was an easy fix or some sort of an aftermarket screen that would fit in front of the radiator, that can be removed on the trail, cleaned and reinstalled.I'm not wanting to mount a radiator on the front rack, I use my Brute for multiple uses. Not in the mud every ride.Any suggestions. Thanks for the tip on the fan breaker.

Unfortunatly, this is a very common problem with all of the Brutes. The only fix for this problem is to relocate the radiator up on the front rack.

For your fan comming on for short intervals, replace the fan relay under the seat with a 10amp blade fuse. The fan relays are natoriuos for going bad. The Fan relay is a small grey box with a small white reset button. It will also be covered in a black rubber cover and has 2 wires going to it. It should be approx. in the center under the seat.
