ok changed fluid and thermostat and after about 6 miles of riding it STILL overheats! I've jacked the front end up as i filled it to make sure no air was in the system and that made no difference. I did remove all the aftermarket stuff(dynojet kit, k &n filter) and put the factory jets in with a #4 washer under the needles. I am now running a twin air air filter. I'm still curious as to what is causing my atv to overheat since I did run the machine all of last summer and this winter without any overheating problem. It just started all of a sudden and i can't find a solution, PLEASE ADVISE!

oh yeah it came on before the temp light did. I have the front fender off right now so i could see it on. As a matter of fact, it was on when the light came on. i've also washed the radiator out and i can see through it. Haven't been through any mud in a while just dusty back roads. Air filter is brand new so it's not dirty or anything either.
Is it actually overheating or could the temp sensor be faulty causing the temp light to come on when it doesnt need to?
@T_Dilley i'm thinking that the pump is spinning because when i take the cap off, fluid is flowing from the right side of the radiator reservoir back into the hose that feeds in to the top of the radiator and as i accelerate that flow increases. @Shumate 650, the fluid is boiling out of the overflow line and is boiling in the reserve tank so i'm thinking the temp sensor is fine.
We had a prairie that the temp sensor went bad on and caused the same symptoms Id check it to see if its bad

Could it be running lean?
Is the radiator clean for airflow?
Is the coolant clean, possibly something gunked up the passages blocking coolant flow?
You can flush the system with water several times, letting it heat up each time you flush it out. You can run pure water in the system to clean it just don't ride anywhere far away as it will most likely boil off.

i'll check the settings on the carb but i don't THINK that it is running lean. What's got me confused is that it was running fine all of last summer and this winter then when i started riding again in april/may without changing or adding anything and it just started running hot. I'll also flush it again and see if that does anything. I did remove the rad and wash out thoroughly.
Sometimes you have to squeeze the hoses as well as have it jacked up to make sure there is no air in there. Also crack the cylinder and water pump drain bolts to make sure you have water/coolant running out of them with no air.
Is it boiling over or being pushed over? I know you.don't want to hear it but if its being pushed that means you got a faulty head gasket and its presurizing the system. Any tiny bubbles in the fluid while its running?
I definatly would recomend having a temp gauge on it. If its not a head gasket and boils over too many times it will be.
